Mr. Ziploc

Sometimes you just need to be aggressive. The world isn't always going to present itself before you. Occassionally you find that you just need to stick your head into the metaphorical feedbag of life and go at it.

Even if that means a Ziploc of dog food in someone's purse.

Mr. FlightTonight

I think this is the expression your Dachshund makes when you drop him in his economy seat on a United flight to South East Asia and then slowly - you turn around... and beat it for the door.

...but i'm not sure - it could be something else...

Mr. Green

Bug has decided to reduce his carbon footprint by investing in zero-emissions transportation.

Also, he's lazy.

Mr. Gone til the Summer

The Dachshund went South. We went East. He was sent to Florida back in the Fall to further his studies and, for once, make something of his lazy life. Apparently, he was not fully supportive of our decision (see picture below - note: most Egyptologists will have you believe that the Sphinx is a man with a lion's body; we have reason to believe otherwise)

to send him away and has sent some pictures, characteristic of what we hoped would be his diligent new life in the subtropics.

He did not include a note with the pictures and it is difficult to estimate the progress of his studies from the pictures, so I must assume that all is going well for now.

I am hoping to see Bug again during his Summer vacation. Until that time we'll be here.

Mr. Flash

The Flash gives Phineus, the cat, a fly-by.

Mr. Pack Rat

The little Houdini managed to pack himself.

Mr. New Calling

So, it seems that Bug has decided it's time to move on. His mother and I awoke to find his little cage door ajar... and no Bug in sight. Before celebrating, we checked his recent email messages and we may have stumbled across a few clues.

From what we've pieced together we believe that he's been accepted to some sort of baby Dachshund training camp. We're not sure where it is or really what's going on at this point. We'll keep you updated.

We'll carry Bug in our memories. We miss you Bug. Please come home.

Mr. Unmarketable

We visited Philidelphia; we perused the farmer's market; we tried to pawn our Dachshund; nobody wanted him. We'll keep him for now.

Mr. Brunch

Even tiny Dachshunds need brunch. Unfortunately tiny Dachshunds often go overlooked.

Mr. Beastly Brontosaurus

Again, the likeness lizardy and down-right dinosaur.

Mr. Ambush

Please excuse the flash. Night footage. I've got to warn all of you outside NYC and all of those who might venture outside of NYC like I did. I'll get right down to it: if you cross paths with a patch of bushes, be wary. Don't assume you know what sort of nest might be inside.

And for goodness sake, keep your hands outa there!

Mr. First Class

I'm sure he had a good reason for "wanting to be the first to get the mail." I've confirmed with Bug that he was not and would not try to escape via the US Postal.

Mr. Bug Mobile

Yeah, Bug does mobile blogging. Ain't no thing. He's world-wide.

Please click the picture to see the tiny blue bug-eyes.

Mr. Sneaky Leap

Yes, this is another caught-only-on-camera look into the secret life of Bug, furtively darting here and there, when no one is watching. What's he doing? Surely he's not leaping at the food on that table there; he must have some greater mission... we'll never know.

Mr. Easter Egg

One of the best character traits of the Dachshund is his sacrificial love. The Dachshund remains concerned and on-guard at all times. He does so, not because he gets pleasure out of barking at anything that moves or does not move, not because every passing object deserves suspicion, not because he is a senslessly paranoid creature; the Dachshund never lets down his guard because of his inalienable duty to protect those around him.

Let's just consider that at any moment during these seemingly benign Easter photos, a bear or some other unknown terror could charge forth from the azalea bush in the background there, leaving little recourse for the Dachshund except to dispatch the threat.

Living with a Dachshund, it's become pretty easy to spot the tell-tale signs that the Dachshund is on duty: The ears are set high in full banner, able to pick up threat-sounds at great distances; the baby claws are extended and the paws are squirmy; the eyes, the eyes tell the real story of living without a moment of relaxation: the brow is permanently furrowed and the eyes are deeply concerned.

The result of the Dachshund's vigilant mien? Take a look at the humans in the snaps above: they are eerily sedated, without a care in the world. As always, we thank you, Bug.

Mr. AirTrain

Ever taken the AirTrain to Newark (EWR)? Even though by all appearances the trains require no driver, you probably had a little voice in the back of your head telling you, "there's something going on here... this train can't drive itself... AirTrain is hiding something, some small, long secret..." Well, you probably think I'm about to reveal that baby Dachshunds drive those trains. Are you serious? Have you lost your mind!? Have you even paused to think of the implications of baby Dachshunds driving the AirTrain?!? They'd never get anything done.

Mr. Suntan

Any Dachshund will tell you: Dachshunds do not like to sunbathe; such trifling pursuits are left to cats. This is a lie. Please observe the Dachshund sunning his port side:

Annnd flip... sunning the starboard.

Thank you to the brave photographer who delivered these pics; catching the Dachshund in his lie is not a task for the faint of heart.

Mr. Small and Hard to Notice

Since we are already aware of the Dachshund's keen senses, it's time to test yours. You are charged with finding the baby Dachshund in the following snaps.

Let's start with an easy one, a warm-up.

Yes, that's correct. The baby Dachshund has put himself inside the pillow. He has also covered the baby Dachshund nose.

Ok, we'll ramp up the challenge slowly; here is the next one:

Correct. We see the Dachshund has this time obscurred everything but the nose inside someone's hoodie.

Getting a little more difficult...

I think we're seeing a theme: the baby Dachsund can usually be found in warm burrows. Only the baby Dachshund foot is left out in the cold here. (A reminder to those of you who are newer to the Internets: you can click the picture for a larger version)

Alright, think you're warmed up? Find the baby...

That's right. He's helping Kim drive the Previa (the "Automobubble").

Getting a little more difficult here.

Yes, that is he, perched atop the stairs, there with his tiny Dachshund-head.

Alright, we'll move on to a more challenging locale: the New Jersey Transit train.

Yes, the baby Dachshund is doing who-knows-what on the NJT. Well done, everyone. Please report your scores as comments. Bug will review them at his leisure; for he is a baby-Dachshund of leisure.

Mr. Tiny and Mad

Let's all just take a moment to put ourselves in the tiny, Italian leather shoes of the baby Dachshund. It can tough going.
